Can a dishwasher cycle pattern be thrown off kilter? - garbage dispenser

Since the disposal of garbage, acting on my dishwasher. I have a lot (of standing water on the bottom more than usual) and the soap dispenser seems the wrong time to open. When the cycle is complete, and open the door of the soap dispenser is opened and the liquid soap is running for the door. No idea what could be causing this? The GE unit is less than seven years.
